How to relocate to Malta

As a result of Malta’s accession to the EU, since 2014, all TCNs are required to go through the single permit procedure to be authorised to work and reside in Malta.

The process to apply for a single work permit under normal circumstances, where the need for additional security checks or verifications on the applicant’s suitability does not arise, the average processing time takes between six to eight weeks, which falls well within the four months’ timeframe stipulated by the said EU Directive.

The company is responsible for paying the costs associated with obtaining a work permit in Malta.

The documents required for a work permit application can vary depending on specific requirements. The main common documents that are requested when applying for a work permit are:

1. A valid passport
2. Proof of educational qualifications or relevant work experience
3. A criminal background check or police clearance certificate
4. Medical clearance or proof of vaccinations
5. A completed work permit application form
6. Lease Agreement in Malta

Once your own work permit has been granted permission to reside and work in Malta, then you may proceed to apply to bring your family members to join you in the country.
