LeoVegas Group Continues Support for The Lions Foundation

On Sunday 2nd November 2025, four LeoVegas Group ambassadors arrived in South Africa for a 1-week volunteering programme at The Lions Foundation.

Located within the 1,000-hectare Schrikkloof Private Nature Reserve, The Lions Foundation is home to rescued lions, tigers, and other animals who have been given a second chance at life.

LeoVegas Group’s ongoing partnership with The Lions Foundation and Stichting Leeuw – a Netherlands-based organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating big cats that eventually find a home at the Foundation – offers our ambassadors the opportunity to experience first-hand the impact of our continued support.

Supporting Big Cat Conservation Since 2017

Since 2017, LeoVegas Group has proudly funded the care of two rescued lions who we adopted, Bruno and Omar, through monthly donations. These funds cover their daily care, food, and enrichment activities. Both lions were rescued from confined conditions, and today they live safely and comfortably thanks to the incredible work of The Lions Foundation and our ongoing support to their wellbeing.

The Volunteering Programme

During the visit, our ambassadors will be rolling up their sleeves and lending a hand on one of the Foundation’s most recent projects, The Lion Head Project. This expansion aims to create larger, more natural habitats for animals currently housed in smaller, inherited enclosures.

Once complete, the new 20-hectare area will form the shape of a lion’s head, visible from above on Google Earth, and will provide improved spaces for leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, jackals, servals, and caracals.

Beyond its impressive design, the Lion Head Project symbolises the Foundation’s mission to provide rescued animals with the freedom, space, and care they deserve while raising global awareness around ethical wildlife conservation.

Our ambassadors will also assist with hands-on conservation work, from cleaning enclosures, planting grasses and trees, feeding and grooming the rescue donkeys and engaging in behavioural enrichment activities for the animals. It’s a true “mud, sweat, and muck” experience, one that reflects the hard work and dedication required to make a real difference.

Over the coming week, our ambassadors will share their experiences directly from South Africa; the highlights, challenges, and moments that remind us why this cause matters.
